CHAD ON THE ISSUES

HOLDING GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABLE

READ CHAD'S FULL POSITION

Public trust is tough to earn and easy to lose. Dishonest and even criminal behavior at all levels of our government has dramatically diminished public trust in our government and elected officials. As your representative on the City Council, Chad will make it his priority to restore your faith and trust in our elected officials and lead with integrity.

ADDRESSING HOMELESSNESS & CRIME

Over the last few years, we’ve experienced a rash of violent crimes, especially against seniors, which we have not seen before. Members of the community and Chad's own family and friends have shared that they no longer feel safe in their neighborhoods, having changed behaviors such as no longer carrying purses or bags in reaction to increased crimes, and even being victims themselves. Chad believes that public safety must be a priority for the next councilmember of District 6 and, as your councilmember, will address our safety concerns. As a Councilmember, Chad will work to: • Fill HPD vacancies. • Fully fund and expand the CORE program and the recruitment of social workers. • Enforcement crimes committed by the homeless and get them the help they need through Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) or similar programs.

SUPPORTING OUR SMALL BUSINESSES

Small businesses are the backbone of our Honolulu economy, especially in District 6, where family restaurants, grocery stores, and shops have survived for generations. Many small businesses have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and by unnecessarily city regulations. Chad believes it should be the job of the next councilmember of District 6 to protect these small businesses from unnecessary regulations and taxes and build a more business-friendly environment in our city.

OPPOSING FEE AND TAX INCREASES

Our taxpayers are overburdened by some of the highest taxes in the nation through the General Excise Tax (GET), income tax, and a number of other taxes and fees on a daily basis. As a Councilmember, Chad is committed to opposing increases in property tax rates. In addition, he has made it a campaign promise to never vote for an increase to public transportation fares. As a Councilmember, Chad will work to: • Oppose increases to property taxes and government fees, including bus fares. • Continue and expand property tax excemptions that counter increasing property tax reassessments.
